Night, night.

Nights

Everyday is perfect if you have had a beer at least! Here I let you the places to have beers. We will beging with the famous Wetherspoons company, in Carlisle I think there are 3 places but I just know 2 at London Road: Woodrow Wilson and The william rufus (better known as Lloyd’s Nº 1 Bar). Every pint is around £2!

In this second one some days, once a week, they do a funny Interactive Quiz which I recommend a lot. You can win £50 and they have a Facebook page so you can check when the next quiz is going to be: https://www.facebook.com/InteractiveQuiz?fref=ts
The Quiz consist on 9 rounds: Guess Who, Movies, Food and Drink, Music, Television quiz, General Knowledge, Logos, Sport and What’s happening.

At this places you can go at the mornings, afternoons and nights. But there are another places to go at night like Concrete or Botanica.
I really like Concrete and their music, they also have the Teapot Tuesday (they can serve your drink on a Teapot), and the inside of this place is really great.

But i like Botanica most, they organize more different things like foam party, or theme parties (most times of animals, with masks, they have people that put paint on your face, etc). And the decoration is amazing with Banksy’s Graffiti and there are two floors with a fake tree going through them.

There is another one that I went during my last days there: Walkabout. It is an Australian Bar and you can have also lunch and dinner but I came just at night and the music is really good and you don’t need to pay any ticket for going into it most days (some saturdays you have to) but it is the cheapest place to get into.

Enjoy the night!

The perfect dinner at Carlisle

Nights, Where to eat

During my stay in Carlisle I had the luck of knowing the best place to have the perfect dinner. This place is called The Shabby Scholar at Carlyle´s Court. They have an amazing decoration and the environment is really cozy.

The first time that I went here we went just for having a cup of tea and they treat us really good so we have came a lot of times since then so we booked a dinner for the 24th of December. They give you crackers for the christmas lunch and dinner.

You can have a look of the menu on their Facebook page where they update it every month. https://www.facebook.com/theshabbyscholar
We chose a lot of dishes, they have a really looking and the prices are very good. Here I leave you the pictures of our dinner. The best part: the dessert!

Vegetarian Tagine, french cheese, Sage and onion chicken and Homemade falafel. The dessert: a cake of cookies, white chocolate and caramel with strawberries.

Free Tourism, Where to buy, Where to eat

If you are during Christmas In Carlisle I hope that your stay is at the same time as the Christmas market.

You can find anything there, stores to eat, stores to buy presents, christmas things… Whatever!
I found really good stores where you could have spanish, moroccan or indian food.

So if you want to go at Christmas I would recommend to check the calendar of Carlisle on Chirstmas because they have a lot of things planned during December, for example Neon Jungle came to do a concert at the city center, they installed a skating rink…

Follow the Rugby League

Activities

Sundays is the day of the week when you have a lot of time to do things but most of the places are closed so at the you stay at home, Isn’t it true? So here I come with a plan perfect for Sundays: Follow th Rugby League.

Around Carlisle you have a lot of cities to go every sunday, and most of the games are on Sunday. You can go early in the morning and visit that city and around 3-4 (it is usual to be at that time) go to watch a rugby match.

In my case I came to Workington Town to watch the match against Whitehaven. So we took a bus from Carlisle at 1 and we arrived at 2:30 i thnik I remember but the game was at 3:30-4:00 so we had some beers at the bar next to the rubgy field where they had a lot of pictures of the team long time ago until this days.

It was my first rugby match that I had even seen so it surprised me a lot. We entered into the bleachers some minutes before they started so we could see how they warm up and then the match begun. you have a brake in the middle of the match, it is like 40 minutes for the first part, then 10 minutes for a brake and another 40 minutes for the second part of the game.

I think it is a good plan to do on a sunday, Don’t you?

Carlisle Castle views while having a nice breakfast?

Activities, Advices, Where to eat

We have another alternative for a breakfast time. In a previous post we recommended to go to Toby Carvery if you are really hungry (it was an all you can eat place) but if you want to enjoy good views we know a place were you can enjoy the Carlisle Castle views!

It is on the last floor of Debenhams´ building. you can have the typical english breakfast or you can also have pastries, smoothies, yogruts, porridges… We tried the english one in which you could choose items like: sausages (with vegetarian option), roasted potatoes, beans, bacon, tomato soup, mushrooms, fried bread …

You had different prices depending on the number of items that you wanted (4, 6, 8 or 10), so the lowest price was £3,25 and the highest £6,25 and always with a free toast with butter, and all the drinks are paid apart.

It is a really recomended place to go on a relaxing day so you can start the day with this amazing views:

Have a good day!

Yummy Yummy Dinner!

Activities, Nights, Where to eat

Wednesday afternoon? If you are a student you have the perfect plan to do every Wednesday. The university church organize every week a dinner for students and it’s just one quid! The other years they were used to celebrate it at St John’s church which is the one at Fusehill campus. This year has been at Warwick square at New Waterton Hall. But just in case if you are thinking on going after 2015 check out before you go where is it just in case they change the location, they have a page on Facebook where they upload pictures and tell you the menu days before the dinner, it is used to be at 6pm on Wednesday.

The main courses that we have had this term (Oct-Dec 2014) has been such as this:
– Cumberland Sausage and Mash
– Bacon Pesto pasta with salad
– Chilli con Carne with Rice
– Hog Roast with Crackling, Apple Sauce, Stuffing and Herb buttered potatoes
– Sausage Cassoulet with Crusty Bread & Salad
– Jacket Potatoes with slow cooked Spicy Tomato Chilli with Carne and melted cheese topping
– Chicken Enchiladas & Salad.
– Spaghetti Bolognese
– Chicken & Leek Pie with Potatoes, Broccoli & Green Beans

Here are some pictures of the dishes we had.

But you don’t just have a dish (which is huge and sometimes you can have a second), you also have puddings!
– Tray Bakes and ice cream
– Profiteroles & Chocolate Sauce
– Banana Split with Chocolate Sauce
– Chocolate, Strawberry Gateaux
– Swiss Rolls
– Fruit Pie
– Eclairs and Vanilla Slices…

You can also have a tea of coffe for 50p more and the first day they had handmade Flapjacks for 20p that were incredible!

They take a break for Christmas of course but they also give you a Christmas dinner the first week of December which has: turkey, all the trimmings (mash potato, broccoli, brussels sprouts, saussage rolls, carrots, gravy, tofu meatloaf, roast potatoes …), great puds, Christmas crackers, a silly Nativity skit, and a little gift for everyone.

If you are vegetarian don’t worry because they ALWAYS have a veggie option even for Christmas dinner!if you want to help you can, just talk to them, the team is really nice and its always a pleasure to return the nice gesture they have organizing this.

After the dinner you can stay there to the debates and talks that they have about life and religion.

If you go to this dinner, just let me know!

All you can eat

Activities, Where to eat

If one day you wake up hungry and do you want take a tipycal English breakfast Toby´s Carvery is the perfect place. It is outside of the city near to big Tesco. http://www.tobycarvery.co.uk/

When you enter in the pub you are going to be surprised with the English decoration.

The breakfast is self-service and you only have to pay £3,99 without drink, what we thought it wasn´t right . In the breakfast you can find different kind of potatos, eggs, beans, sausages, mushrooms, bacon… or the traditional breakfast with toast with different flavours of jam although is too much light for the English people.

If you are vegetarian don´t worry, you have another option in the menu wich included quorn sausages that the waitress will bring you at table. Now all you have to do is enjoy with this typical English breakfast.
